a mushroom kingdom - super Mario birthday!

Friday, January 19, 2024

when our son asked us for a Mario birthday I paused for a second, because first, a video game theme for a 5 year old?! but seeing how cute the movie was I decided we could make a cute mushroom kingdom theme! my main focus was going to be mushrooms and then I wanted to add small Mario elements like stars and coins. I thought this might give it a fun whimsy clean look. I made my mushrooms out of cardboard, fabric, and pool noodles. super easy, probably took me an hour total to make 5. I ordered these beige circle plates and added a strip of masking tape to make them look like coins. I ordered these gold star plates and add two strips of black tape for cute little eyes. I cut out a few clouds just out of normal poster board paper. I also wanted to add an element of warping into mushroom kingdom so I kept thinking of ways to make life size warp pipes and I found these tubes at Home Depot! my husband cut off about 6 inches with a hand saw so I could glue that piece around and top to give it a pipe look. I spray painted them with the green color eden! the kids had so much fun with these life-size pipes and I think that really tied everything together to really give it the Mario kingdom effect! i surrounded the kids table and our house with these fun lantern mushrooms, (that I can't wait to bring back out in the fall!) our favor bags were mystery bags that I found on amazon, here. I used these wooden blocks to give the brick pixelated effect that Mario runs across in the video game and used tiny Mario character cake toppers on them. I also made a pixelated number 5 out of paint strips for the backdrop. for the longest time I've used wood backdrops for my arch but I found this metal arch set on amazon for a deal I couldn't pass up. it saved me so much time and I love how versatile it is. I ordered these beige covers for it for this particular theme. i never knew how much fun i'd having doing a video game themed birthday but this was probably one of my favorites I've ever done! I hope this inspires you to take a theme and give it a twist of your own to create magic!!

happy celebrating!

I love a good themed party and I usually go for a theme that is timeless and that I can incorporate into our daily living. I absolutely love earthy themes & I plan on doing those for the boys until they’re old enough to pick their own! haha. I decided to go with a national parks theme for Musa’s first birthday! I knew I wanted greens, trees, and all the boho vibes so as I searched for the perfect invite, I came across Basic Invite. I also had some prints of forests in his room that I wanted to incorporate so when I heard of Basic Invite and how their personalization sets them apart from other websites, I was sold! They have an almost unlimited color option that allows you to customize every little detail of your card. You also get to pick the color of your envelope out of 40 different colors! How fun is that?! If you’re a very particular person like me, this is the invite company you wanna go with! I was able to customize literally everything and adding addresses was super easy with their address capturing service. As a mom of two boys under one, every second of the day counts and I'm always looking for ways to save time. By using this address capturing service, I was able to save soo much time and hassle, and get back to our routine without feeling like I spent the whole day working on invites. I don't know about y'all but I, some how always find myself attending all the baby showers around this springy time of year. They have some of the cutest chic baby shower invitations. Check them out here.
I'm also so into whale themes currently (already planning Mika's birthday and thinking of going with that theme!) and saw these adorable whale baby shower invitations they have. Click here to see them!I recently threw one of my good friends a prince theme'd baby shower and I wish I would've seen these prince baby shower invitations before!! Right now Basic Invite is offering %15 off with code 15ff51 so be sure to check them out!
I was so excited to use our personalized card at our party! It turned out so perfect!
